Team Farm Role

This opportunity could ideally be for a dynamic couple or experienced horse person looking to join a dynamic team.

Silverdale Farm is a world-class thoroughbred broodmare farm located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales and set on 260 acres of beautiful, lush pastures. We proudly work towards breeding, education and raising successful racehorses. Silverdale Farm have quickly established an enviable reputation with outstanding results on the track through breeding Golden Slipper Winner and Champion 2yo Fireburn in our first crop and topping Magic Million Sales on averages in 2nd year. This year we were 3rd on averages across all sales Australia Wide. An achievement we are very proud of.

We have an amazing opportunity for a dynamic couple who will work as a team living on farm in a beautiful modern cottage with extensive modern kitchen facilities, walk in robe and ensuite which will make a wonderful family home, all located in a beautiful private setting with landscaped gardens. Located only 20 minutes’ drive from the bustling town of Bowral with great retail facilities, amenities and a choice of highly reputable schools in the area, and it’s an easy 1.5hr commute to the Sydney suburbs. You will also be closely located to all medical services including Bowral Hospital and specialist services. This role is for a couple who thoroughly enjoy the farm life.

This role suits a couple with any combination of skills in Breeding, Farming, Gardening, Horse person and/or Administration work. Your prior experience will give you a thorough understanding of all the nuances and expectations that accompany these types of roles of working on a farm. This role is also open for individuals with experience working with horses.

Ideally your backgrounds will see you having worked on rural properties, but especially with horse breeding experience. Safety for the horse and handler will be at the forefront of everything you do as well as ensuring the highest standards of animal health and welfare.

It is not necessary for both parties to have experience in all the above, however, it is essential that one partner can cover horse care whilst the other can cover off either farming/truck driving, gardening or stud administration.

These roles require pragmatic people who have the energy, flexibility, adaptability and are highly organised. Both must be very well planned and bring a can-do attitude. Working individually and as a team is paramount to the success of this opportunity. A couple who can create and sustain working cultures of excellence both internally and externally on Farm will hold you in great stead. You are capable when required, most importantly you are down-to-earth and enthusiastic with high levels of initiative and integrity.

Essential Skills:

Horse Skills
  • • Handing of horses
  • • Management of Broodmares (Vetting Procedures)
  • • Foaling
  • • Foal handing and education
  • • Yearling sales preparation
  • • Feeding
 
Farm Administration
  • • Administration skills highly advantageous to assist with daily administration
  • • Assist during events on the farm
  • • Greeting visitors
  • • Support with our intern education programs
  • • Horse registration
  • • Sales company nominations

Farm Maintenance

  • • Pasture management
  • • Weed control
  • • Checking and repairing of fences
  • • Garden and building maintenance (basic plumbing skills desirable)
  • • Slashing and other general farm jobs
  • • Operate and maintain plant machinery
  • • Truck driving experience HR license
  • • Loading and unloading horses

Gardening

  • • Gardening and grounds work such as mowing, gardening, weeding and basic service and maintenance of mowers
  • • Spot spraying (noxious weed control & fences – training and PPE provided)
  • • A full clean restricted driver’s license is required

Desirable Skills:

  • • Personal skills you bring to the role will be valued within the business
  • • Good communication and teamwork are essential with initiative to complete operational tasks that contribute to the team
  • • Ensure OHS policies and procedures are strictly followed and adhering to company policies and safe work procedures
  • • You must be neat and organised with attention to detail and good time management.
  • • Minimum two years’ experience in a similar role
  • • Demonstrated experience in the management and handling of livestock
  • • Willingness to learn new systems of work
  • • Demonstrated ability to follow directions from management and peers and work as a valuable team member
